My journey on the path of yoga began at a women’s only fitness centre in Leduc in 2002. I was 21 years old and looking to introduce a new exercise to this un-athletic girl. Yoga was a very pleasant surprise and by my 3rd class I was hooked. All I knew about yoga when I walked into my first class was that Madonna, Jennifer Aniston, and Gwyneth Paltrow were doing it, and they were feeling and looking great. So I gave it a try and my once a week class quickly changed from being just a form of exercise to a lifestyle that was making a HUGE impact on my life.
With the guidance of my first yoga teacher Leala Enfield I went on to complete my 200 hr Yoga Alliance Certification through Trinity Yoga where I had the opportunity to learn from Jennifer Steed and Mary-Jo Flettery. I would have to say my level 1 teacher training was one of the most transformative experiences of my life, that week set the tone for this amazing journey called “my life”, a life I had been longing for, a life I knew was out there but didn’t think it could possibly happen to me.
I decided to teach yoga as a way to share the beauty of this practice with others. I often tell my students that I don’t think of myself as a teacher; after all, I learn just as much from my students as they may learn from me. I am here to share and help guide them through their practice and together we will heal, create peace, and love.
After having my son, Seth, in 2007 I was inspired to teach yoga to children. I completed my certification through the highly acclaimed yoga for children program YogaKids in September 2009. In that time I also created a class called Fitmama Yoga which is a postnatal yoga class that’s primary focus is on mom. This class is a baby/toddler friendly class that allows mom a chance to get out to a yoga class without needing to leave her babies at home.
There is a quote by Rumi “Let the beauty that you love be what you do”. I am forever grateful that I have the chance to live that quote and I hope to meet you on your mat one day so I can say thank you, thank you for allowing me to share this joy with you.
